2nd Grade Reading LP Vocabulary
Vocabulary includes 144 challenges: 12 cards with 12 challenges on each card. Each card is SELF-CORRECTING. These cards help children: become familiar with high-frequency words, understand the meanings of synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms, and recognize parts used to build words.
The activities on the cards progress in this order: Card 1 - Identifying the synonyms of adjectives. Card 2 - Identifying the synonyms of nouns. Card 3 - Identifying the antonyms of adjectives. Card 4 - Identifying the antonyms of verbs. Card 5 - Matching homonyms to pictures. Card 6 - Using homonyms correctly. Card 7 - Identifying compound words. Card 8 - Forming compound words. Card 9 - Using the prefix un-. Card 10 - Meanings of the prefixes uni-, bi-, tri-, cent-. Card 11 - Using the suffixes -er and -or. Card 12 - Using the suffix -y. Vocabulary development is an important part of helping children become fluent readers. The ability to readily recognize words has a strong correlation to the ability to comprehend written materials. Conversely, children who struggle with word recognition while reading usually struggle with comprehension.
